Kadiatou hopes to become a tailor one day.
Kadiatou is 13 and has never been to school because her family could not afford the fees. When she first began attending classes at MindLeaps, she was often dirty, never showering, and with no motivation. She did not have many friends. Like many girls at the Center, Kadiatou’s self-esteem was low. Through her training and support at MindLeaps, Kadiatou has transformed. With encouragement during dance class, she is able to push herself much further. After a few short months, she has become determined and sociable. She now takes care of herself and has made many friends.
Kadiatou loves the dance and English classes at MindLeaps in particular. Some of her other favorite things are:
Favorite color: red
Favorite animal: goat
Favorite dance move: saut de chat
Kadiatou now dreams of future careers and hopes to become a tailor one day.

Kadiatou's story.
Kadiatou, 16, is one of six siblings and was forced to drop out of school in 5th grade in 2018. Her parents had debts and could no longer pay school fees. Her father later passed away and her mother remarried, but the family was still living on limited means.
Her mother heard about MindLeaps and enrolled Kadiatou in the program in 2019. Even though dance class was a challenge for her, Kadiatou was serious about trying and she put in her best effort. She was always good-humored – a smiling, laughing presence in class. She completed the program and was selected to begin vocational training in 2020.
Through home visits, MindLeaps staff became aware that Kadiatou wasn’t getting much supervision from home. Her mother was often away from the house, occupied with her small business selling fish. Kadiatou and her brothers and sisters were left on their own. She often had a lot of housework to do, so came late to classes at the vocational training center. MindLeaps staff helped her mother understand that arrangements had to be made so Kadiatou could come regularly to classes on time. This was important if she was going to successfully complete her training. The problem has been resolved and now she can give full attention to her sewing and tailoring studies. Kadiatou says she hopes to one day become a designer.
