17-year-old Patrick Nkundimana had been out of school for three years before joining MindLeaps because his mother could not afford the school fees. During those three years, Patrick worked hard to get into the MindLeaps program and would spend his days reading books. At home, Patrick’s father isn’t around and his mother takes care of her five children alone. She sells produce on the streets to make money, but Patrick still has to fend for himself. When Patrick grows up, he hopes to form his own NGO similar to MindLeaps.
