Shaban wants to be a Rwandan soldier!
10-year-old Shaban faced difficult social issues before joining MindLeaps. Unable to communicate maturely, Shaban often resorted to fighting as a means of communication. Now, he is much more disciplined and shows more maturity, even when he is upset. At home, he lives with both parents and two sisters. However, his dad does not work, leaving his mother to earn all of the household income working as a vegetable seller. Only Shaban and one of his sisters are in school because his mother can’t afford school fees for all three of her children. Luckily, Shaban’s participation at the MindLeaps center means that his mother doesn’t need to worry about him being able to attend. Shaban is still struggling with reading but loves learning dance--Rwandan dance especially.
